Some of the biggest car companies want to pump the brakes on new legislation that would cut petrol bills and clean up climate pollution.

The Federal Government has released legislation for a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard for new Aussie cars, utes and vans in Parliament. This is an important way to cut petrol bills and clean up climate pollution from our vehicles in one go – a win-win.

While the legislation has been released, it hasn’t yet been voted on in Parliament.

Some of the biggest car companies – Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi and Mazda – want to pump the brakes. They don’t mind that Aussies are paying too much for petrol-guzzling, high polluting cars because that’s how they make their profits.
