Barung Landcare is calling all young bird and nature lovers as part of their Wootha Prize event at the Montville Timber Trail 2-4th May 2026.

Whether you can mimic a yellow tailed cockatoo’s screech or perform a currawong’s morning song, this is your moment to shine. Join the fun, show off your skills, and tell us about the amazing birdlife around us.

Winners announced at the conclusion of performances. Judges are local bird experts. 

When: Sunday 3 May 2026 

Where: Montvale at Montville, 92 Main Street Montville

Time: 11am: Prep - Year 3 Face-Off

Time: 1.30 pm: Year 4- Year 6 Face-Off

Entry Fee: $2 - Pay when you register online, or you can just come along on the day to register and pay.

Competitors will perform in order of time of arrival on the day with pre-registered contestants performing first. 

Prizes for each age group

First Prize: $50

Second prize: $35

Third Prize: $25

How to prepare!

  1. Choose an Australian native bird. It must live on the Sunshine Coast.
  2. Write 3 sentences about your bird - where it lives, what it looks like and something you think is special about it. Rehearse your talk for presenting at the competition.
  3. Learn and practise the bird’s call

On the day

Tell us about your chosen bird and perform its call for the audience and judges at the Montville Timber Trail and Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize Event.
