No one like to see good food go to waste.

Did you know that each festive season up to 25% of the food we buy is discarded?

No one likes to see good food go to waste. This festive season, Living Smart, Sunshine Coast Foodie Martin Duncan, Roz White from White’s IGA and Kim McCosker from 4 Ingredients are joining forces to share our favourite tips for avoiding food waste at home.

Together, we embrace the spirit of getting together with fine food, family and friends,

supporting our incredible local producers and loving our leftovers.

One in five shopping bags of food in Australia goes to landfill and even more food goes to waste at this time of year. Love Your Leftovers aims to inspire you with delicious, healthy recipes and life hacks to transform leftover food into tasty meals.

Waste saving tips

Preparation and good planning are the key to avoiding food excess and waste at any time of the year.

  • Take a “shelfie” of what you already have in our fridge and pantry before heading to the supermarket
  • Plan menus ahead and make a list of what you need
  • Don’t overbuy – sometimes less is more
  • Store well – don’t leave cold items, salads or meats out of the fridge for longer than two hours
  • Use your freezer to store excess meat and cooked foods for later use
  • Love Your Leftovers by using them creatively

Check out our fantastically fun Love Your Leftovers videos for some easy ways to get creative with your leftovers and slash your food waste this holiday season.
